When Everything Feels Like Too Much, Start Here
Dale Sidebottom

The world right now feels heavy. Constant demands, global tension, pressure to keep up and just “handle it.”... it builds up until even small things start to feel overwhelming.

Children feel it. But so do adults, just with fewer outlets.

We try to think our way through stress.

Push through it. Stay productive.

But stress isn’t just mental, it lives in the body.

And without a release, it lingers.

Play is powerful, not as entertainment, but as a fast, accessible way to interrupt stress patterns. Movement, laughter, and low-pressure interaction signal safety to the nervous system, lowering cortisol and lifting mood in minutes.

On tough days, you don’t always need to solve everything.

You need something that helps you shift state.

This week, we’re exploring playful solutions to recharge and support adult well-being at school, in the office, and at home, even on the busiest days. Let's begin!

When There’s No Time, But It Still Matters

Teachers manage content and emotional needs simultaneously. Parents are trying to stay on top of what their child is feeling with limited visibility. By the time stress shows up clearly, it’s already built up.

Small, consistent check-ins change everything.

The Better Us Project makes those micro-moments automatic. Students check in daily in under 30 seconds, giving teachers a real-time snapshot before the day even begins. No chasing. No spreadsheets. Only clear insight into who’s okay and who might need support.

It also removes the guesswork. The platform suggests exactly what to do next, with ready-to-run activities matched to real student needs.

For schools, it’s proactive support.
For parents, it’s peace of mind.
For teachers, it’s time back.

Gratitude Charades

When stress builds, it doesn’t just sit in the mind. It shows up as irritability, shutdown, and low energy. That’s cortisol doing its job for too long without a reset.

Gratitude Charades turns reflection into movement, helping the body and mind regulate. Quick, light, and perfect for staff meetings, team check-ins, workshops, or even at home after a long day.

How to play:
Write gratitude prompts on paper, and place them in a bowl. One person acts it out silently, and others guess.

Make it relevant. Theme your prompts around real life right now:

  • “Logging off on time”
  • “A quiet morning without notifications”
  • “Support from a colleague during a tough week”
  • “Time away from the news cycle”
  • “A message that lifted your mood”

You can play for points or just for the happiness of shared experience!

It’s a fun, human way to release stress and reconnect without needing to talk it all out.

Real Connection in Leadership

An incredible start to the day with the Casey South Principal Network, and they didn’t hold back.

They showed up, connected, and experienced the power of play in leadership. Through shared moments of vulnerability, laughter, and genuine interaction, the room quickly shifted from professional to personal in the best way.

The focus was simple but powerful: trust, connection, and creating cultures where people feel safe to be real.

This marked our fourth workshop with this group, and every time, they bring something special.

A big thank you to Jodie Bray for the continued support and partnership.
